Bauhaus Museum Dessau

“Our guiding principle was that design is neither an intellectual nor a material affair, but simply an integral part of the stuff of life, necessary for everyone in a civilized society” (Walter Gropius)

Similar to Bauhaus School, Dessau’s New Bauhaus Museum approaches through art, education and design becoming closer to public space.  The height of the building (91.50m above sea level) is within the average height of buildings on south (95.05m above sea level XI) and on north (90.29m above sea level IV, Hauptpost). Therefore, it connects the skyline on west side of Kavalierstraße.

The building structure is following the principals of Bauhaus buildings in separating the skin form the floor slabs and interior walls. Similar to Bauhaus School and Herzogliches Hoftheater in Dessau and Altes Museum in Berlin, skin of the building has very important role in immediate reaction to the environment.

This is the place, where people can experience significance in the city.
